#Charlottesgotalot Photo of the Month

posted by Chelsea Galusky November 29, 2017

Charlotte is a city where you instantly feel at home, and that sense of home is depicted daily through socially shared #Charlottesgotalot posts from our residents and visitors. Each month, we’ll dive deeper into the story behind one such #Charlottesgotalot Instagram photo and the photographer behind the lens (or smart phone).

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in Ohio, but my family moved to Idaho when I was 5. I loved all that Idaho had to offer, especially the gorgeous mountain views, then I moved to North Carolina when I married. I have to say, as much as I missed the mountains–I was really happy about warm winters in Charlotte. A few years ago, my husband, our two kids and I moved back to Ohio, but we still visit Charlotte often to spend time with family. Of course, my favorite hobby is taking pictures.

What’s the story behind this photo?

This picture was taken at Jetton Park, near Lake Norman. This was our first time there, but we’ve wanted to go for months. My kids are 4 and 2, so I love taking them anywhere they can run and not break anything. My daughter insisted on getting a map right when we arrived at the park. Halfway through our walk, she decided we were lost and sat down at this table to give me directions. I took some pictures during her “instruction” and loved how intently she was looking at the map.

Favorite places for Instagram-worthy photos in Charlotte?

There are way too many places to list. The first ones that come to mind are Reedy Creek Nature Center and Preserve and the overlook at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Favorite thing to do in Charlotte?

Since I don’t live here anymore, I have not been able to do as much as I would like. Recently, my favorite place has recently been at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Watching the planes take off and seeing the Charlotte skyline light up in the distance at sunset is pretty amazing to see.

What’s on your Charlotte bucket list – what haven’t you done yet, but you’d like to soon.

There are so many things I still want to do in Charlotte! Here are my Top 5:
1. Photograph the Charlotte skyline.
2. Find a parking garage or building to take a picture inside the Charlotte skyline.
3. Go to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
4. Check out the Metalmorphosis statue.
5. Have a drink at a rooftop bar, like Fahrenheit Charlotte.
