With victorious appearances on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” and  “Rewrapped,” Cupcrazed Cakery is showcasing the Queen City’s sweet tooth. Owner Heather McDonnell and her team bake up a sprawling assortment of frosted inventions for you to enjoy. In addition to cupcakes, pick up cake pops, cookie cups (cookies in a cup shape topped with frosting, sprinkles and other goodies), brownies and cookies laden with offbeat toppings such as cotton candy, mini funnel cakes, candied bacon and bite-size waffles.

The bakery, with locations in Charlotte (which opened earlier this year) and Fort Mill, specializes in re-imagining everyone’s favorite confections—and even creating renditions of their favorite savory eats. For instance, McDonnell is from Buffalo, New York, home of the Buffalo chicken wing, so the messy mainstay has a cupcake of its own. The buttermilk cake base has actual chicken wings baked into the batter and comes topped with blue cheese and hot wing sauce. It’s a fan favorite for game day tailgates.

Cupcrazed Cakery’s creative flair can also be seen on display in its pop culture creations, including a limited-edition Harry Potter-inspired series with flavors like Butterbeer available September 22 through mid-October.

McDonnell and her team are also fond of packing multiple desserts into one. A rotating daily menu of flavors like rainbow sherbet, chocolate covered strawberry and York Peppermint Pattie come topped with whimsical treats that emulate each cupcake’s theme. But if adulthood’s already too complicated, you can keep your dessert simple, too. Tried-and-true flavors such as chocolate buttercream, double vanilla, red velvet, and classic carrot fill Cupcrazed’s cases.

Stop into one of Cupcrazed’s stores when you’re in need of a spontaneous pick-me-up, or call to customize an order for a wedding or birthday. If you follow a gluten-free diet, never fear: The bakery has gluten-free offerings, so you don’t have to look on woefully as your friends and family devour their tasty treats without you. As an added bonus, each month the bakery chooses a charity to donate cash or treats to, so you can enjoy your sweet purchase knowing you’re helping a good cause.
